Reyes likes the look of the left side of the infield, provided he and Brett Lawrie can avoid injury. "Hes one of the best third basemen, defensive wise, I mean hes very good out there," said Reyes. "I dont know what the team was doing when they tried to make him a second baseman. I dont know where that idea came from because if you see him playing third base hes good there, very good. You know, thats good to see." Reyes was at short, Lawrie at third in the first game of Tuesdays doubleheader with the Yankees. Thanks to injuries and a brief attempt to play Lawrie at second base, the Jays have lined up with Reyes and short and Lawrie at third only 25 times this season. SATURDAYS STARTER UP IN THE AIR With Esmil Rogers and Mark Buehrle both making Tuesday starts, the Blue Jays need a pitcher for Saturday. "Im not sure which direction were going to go, you know, to be honest with you," said manager John Gibbons. The Blue Jays have off days on August 29 and three in early September (5, 9, 16,) which will afford Gibbons the luxury of juggling his rotation. He says he intends to keep R.A. TORONTO -- After a wobbly playoff debut, Raptors star DeMar DeRozan returned to attack mode for Game 2 against the Brooklyn Nets. The 24-year-old Toronto guard had just 14 points in Game 1, with eight of those coming from the free throw line, in a 94-87 loss to visiting Brooklyn that saw DeRozan miss 10 of 13 shots. On Tuesday, a different DeRozan took the court. As he approached the Nets basket, it was if his brain was in overdrive as it diagrammed possible plays. The possibilities seemed endless -- dish off to a teammate, drive to the basket, pull back and take a shot. The Raptors will need more of the same Friday when the series switches to Brooklyns Barclays Center for Game 3. While Toronto preaches a team approach, the Raptors know good things happen when DeRozan is rolling. "I was just trying to feed him," Toronto guard Greivis Vasquez said of Game 2. "I was just trying to get him the ball -- it was just Go, go. We need you to get confidence." Mission accomplished. DeRozan finished with 30 points, 17 of which came in the fourth quarter when he made four of five shots and nine of 11 free throws. He finished the game on five fouls, hanging his head at one point at the end of the bench while his teammates huddled during a timeout. But he was on point when he returned to action in the 100-95 win. DeRozans fourth-quarter output was just two points off the club playoff record of 19, set in 2001 by Vince Carter against Philadelphia. Again and again, DeRozan answered the veteran Nets as they tried to claw their way back. For coach Dwane Casey, DeRozan showed his maturity by taking the shots the defence was giving him rather than trying to force things. "Hes growing," said Casey. "Hes still not a finished product. Weve just seen the beginning of a guy becoming a star." Tuesdays playoff performance was clearly a big step forward on DeRozans young career path. "He knows he can do it in a high-intensity situation," said guard Kyle Lowry. "It just show hes growing," he added. "Hes an all-star for a reason." DeRozans practice regimen includes a variety of difficult shots. He also lifts weights before each games, so he feels like he has the strength to hoist shots from all angles. "If I feel I can get the shot off, I feel like it has a good chance of going in," DeRozan said. It showed Tuesday. His scoring was of the spectacular variety, bringing the sellout crowd of 20,382 to its feet. "You never know what kind of shot youre going to need to shoot at a certain time," he said. Vasquez drove baseline at one point before firing the ball back to the six-foot-seven DeRozan, who attacked the basket, transferred the ball from his right hand to his left in the air and then dunked with authority, "An unbelievable dunk," said the six-foot-six Venezuelan. "I dream about those dunks because I cant even dunk." "He really deserves everything he gets, all the attention and all that stuff he gets because hes our franchise player, hes our best player," he added. "I think for him to do what he did (Tuesday) night was a really huge step to shut a lot people up -- Dont talk about me because Ive got it." DeRozan, meanwhile, said the difference between Game 1 and 2 was he was more aggressive and decisive. How important is DeRozan to the Raptors? He led the team in scoring 42 times during the 2013-14 regular season. He was tied for ninth in league scoring (22.7), fourth in minutes (38.4), fourth in made free throws (519) and fifth in free throws attempted (630). In Brooklyn, Toronto will continue to look to take advantage of its speed and athleticism while hoping to maintain its advantage on the boards. Casey is also looking for a better start to the third quarter, rather than waiting for the fourth to kick into the high gear. "We are the top fourth-quarter team in the league but we cant wait until the fourth quarter in the playoffs," he said. "Weve got to come out hard-charging out of the locker-room." The series marks Torontos first playoff action since 2008. Tomorrow night at 7pm et its Game 3 of the Raptors first round playoff series as they visit the Brooklyn Nets and TSN, TSN 1050 and tsn1050.ca have it live. LOUIS - Jake Allen was a little more than 3 minutes from his third straight shutout Thursday night. In the end, the St. Louis Blues goalie had to hold on just to win. The New Jersey Devils scored three times in a span of 2:34 late in the third period but came up just short as the Blues extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-3 victory.Allen would have enjoyed another shutout, but said the main thing was getting two more points.I think shutouts are bonuses, he said. If I got that third one, great, Ill enjoy it for a little bit. But Im just focusing on wins right now. Definitely a couple of things to learn from the last few minutes, but all in all, we got the win and well move on to Saturday.Allen made 24 saves and ran his shutout streak to 184 minutes before giving up his first goal in two weeks.Vladimir Tarasenko stretched his goal-scoring streak to four games — he and Blues linemate Jaden Schwartz each had a goal and an assist. Tarasenko has scored five goals during his four-game streak and eight in his last six games overall. Its not about the scoring; its about the wins, Tarasenko said. We have seven in a row. So lets make it eight and prepare for the next game.Alexander Steen and David Backes also scored for St. Louis. Jori Lehtera had two assists.Allen, who stopped 26 shots in blanking the Devils 1-0 Tuesday night in New Jersey, had his shutout streak snapped at 184:01 when Michael Ryder beat him with a wrist shot at 16:35 of the third period.Prior to that, Allen had not allowed a goal since Vancouvers Linden Vey scored on him at 11:57 of the third period on Oct. 23.I think he gets a lot of help from their team, New Jerseys Patrik Elias said. Their defencemen are some of the best in the league, if not the best, and they move the puck and dont give the other team great chances.dddddddddddd. When they do give up some, obviously hes played well for them. Marek Zidlicky then scored at 18:09 for New Jersey and Ryder added his second of the game with 50.5 seconds left to make it 4-3.Its tough, Allen said. I just wanted to bear down and give them nothing. You had 1 minute left to get two points and lay it on the line. We got it. We squeezed it out.Blues coach Ken Hitchcock felt the team let Allen down the last few minutes.I feel bad for him, Hitchcock said. Its a win but it feels a little bit like a loss because we let the guy down because he was so good. Jersey came in with real purpose; they really pushed us hard.Cory Schneider made 22 saves for the Devils. He was pulled in favour of Keith Kinkaid after Steen scored on a power play at 7:10 of the third period.Tarasenko got the Blues on the board just before the end of the first period with another highlight-reel goal. He got the puck from Schwartz in the slot, manoeuvred to his left through three Devils, then pulled Schneider out of position before lifting the puck over him at 19:55.Hes probably the hottest player in the league right now, Schneider said. You cant deny his skill. I tried to out-wait him but hes real patient and got it up at the end which I wasnt sure he was going to be able to do. It was another nice goal from him.Schwartz made it 2-0 at 11:05 of the second when he took a long clearing pass from Barret Jackman and skated in alone on Schneider. Schwartz put a wrist shot over Schneiders right shoulder for his sixth goal.NOTES: New Jersey began a stretch of playing 15 out of 20 on the road. ... Schneider has started all 13 games for the Devils. ' ' '

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jeremy Guthrie retired the final 17 batters he faced, Omar Infante had three hits and drove in two runs, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Boston Red Sox 7-1 on Saturday night. Manager Ned Yost overhauled his batting order and got immediate results. The Royals scored seven runs for the first time since Aug. 19, a span of 22 games. Nori Aoki, batting second for the first time this season, and Alex Gordon, who snapped an 0-for-22 skid, each had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Infante, who usually bats second, was dropped to seventh and responded with three singles, including an eighth inning single that scored Lorenzo Cain. He also drove in a run in the third with a fielders choice. Guthrie (11-11), who was roughed up for eight runs on 10 hits in 2 2-3 innings in a loss Monday at Detroit, allowed three hits and one unearned run in eight innings. After David Ortizs single in the third, Guthrie did not allow a base runner. Rubby De La Rosa (4-7) was pulled after four innings and 65 pitches, permitting five runs on six hits. He balked home Salvador Perez, who had a RBI double in the three-run third. Rookie left-hander Brandon Finnegan, the Royals top pick in this Junes draft, replaced Guthrie and allowed one hit in the ninth. Although the addition of the former Bundesliga midfielder could help propel the Revolution into the playoffs, the MLS team is also hoping that his star power rubs off on his new teammates. Coach Jay Heaps said after introducing Jones on Tuesday that hes already seen some benefits. "When he walked in the door, there was an instant respect," Heap said. "The players are looking for leadership, and thats what he brought." The Revolution missed the post-season last season and this year are in sixth place, one point out of the fifth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite a post-World Cup vacation, Jones intends to be available for the Revolution game in Toronto on Saturday. "I would be lying if I said I was 100 per cent," Jones said. "I will do everything I can do to help this team. Maybe I dont start from beginning. Who knows, maybe I will start on bench." Its unlikely that the Revolution brought Jones in as a designated player to watch him sit on the bench for long. The son of an American serviceman and German mother, Jones played every minute of the four American games at this years World Cup, scoring a goall in the 2-2 draw against Portugal in the opening round.dddddddddddd After Brazil, he took some time to consider his options. Heap said that as soon as he heard Jones might be available, he was interested. "Weve been looking for a player like this," he said. "The minute you hear that a player of Jermaines calibre is out there, we jumped at the opp. ... He was exactly the player we wanted." Jones, who said he had been considering MLS even before the World Cup, made it official with the league and then waited to find out where he was assigned. To sort out competing claims by the Revolution and Chicago Fire, the league held a blind draw Sunday, and New England was chosen. "Fortunately for us, our name came up, and were really excited about it," Revolution President Brian Bilello said. "Youve seen him at the World Cup this year. On the field we know hes going to be tremendous for our club." The Revolution have long operated in the shadow of the NFLs New England Patriots, sharing owners and a stadium but not the same record of success as the three-time Super Bowl champions. General manager Mike Burns said the signing was significant, but not a signal that the team would change its approach. "Well continue to operate the way weve always operated," he said. ' ' '

He left with a $1 million check and his first trophy of the year, beating Roger Federer 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) on Sunday to win the BNP Paribas Open for the third time. "Not winning a title and coming here, there were certain doubts," Djokovic said. "I had ups and downs in my concentration in opening rounds, but I managed to stay mentally strong and have that self-belief. Thats something that definitely makes this title very special to me." Federer rallied from a break down and a 5-3 deficit in the third set to force the tiebreaker, but he made a slew of mistakes to lose the 33rd meeting between the rivals. Federer still leads the series 17-16, having beaten Djokovic in three sets in the semifinals at Dubai two weeks ago. Djokovic will remain No. 2 in the world, while Federer will rise three spots to No. 5 on Monday in the ATP Tour rankings. Flavia Pennetta routed injured Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-1 to win the womens title, the biggest of her career. Federer was trying to win a record fifth title in the Southern California desert, and at 32, he would have been the oldest Masters 1000 winner since 34-year-old Andre Agassi won at Cincinnati in 2004. But Djokovic wouldnt allow it. After Federer breezed to the first set in 31 minutes, Djokovic earned the lone break of the second set to go up 5-3 after Federer pulled a forehand wide. "I know he always comes out confident, aggressive," Djokovic said. "He doesnt give you the victory; you have to earn it." Djokovic got the early break in the third, again on one of Federers forehand errors, to lead 2-1. His 112-mph (180 kph) ace gave him a 4-2 lead, and he extended it to 5-3 with a backhand winner down the line. But Federer then served a love-game to make it 5-4 and broke Djokovic to tie the set, 5-all. "I was able to just keep the pressure on Novak and show him that if he slips up, I will be there and I will make it a very competitive match in the end for him,&quoot; Federer said.dddddddddddd In the tiebreaker, however, the Serb raced to a 5-1 lead, helped by four errors from Federer, and closed it out when Federers backhand landed in the net. "At the end, he made sure he kept the ball in play and I might have made a few too many errors when it really mattered," Federer said. A year ago, Pennetta was close to retiring from tennis. The Italian veterans ranking plunged to 166th in the world in June, and she had struggled to rebuild her career after having right wrist surgery the previous August. Now shes glad she stuck around. "After so many years, so much work and everything, this is the moment I always waited for," she said. "And its coming when you dont expect. It was something I was waiting since long time, and finally I have a good trophy in my hands." Actually, the crystal trophy was so heavy, she didnt hoist it for photographers. The 32-year-old Italian became the third-oldest winner of the tournament after Martina Navratilova, who won at age 33 and again at 34 in 1990-91. It was Pennettas first title since winning at Marbella in 2010. "We are old, but we still good athletes," Pennetta said. "We are strong. We have so many years on the tour, and we know how to handle the emotion and everything." As the 20th seed, Pennetta became the lowest seed to win the title. She came in ranked 21st and is projected to rise to No. 12 in the world Monday in the WTA Tour rankings. She beat top-seeded Li Na in the semifinals on her way to the title. Radwanska, seeded second, was bothered with a left knee injury in the final. She twice called for the trainer in the second set and had her knee heavily taped. She was in tears apologizing to the sympathetic crowd afterward, saying she was unable to run. The Pole said she hurt her knee a few days ago in practice. "I just didnt expect it was going to be much worse today," she said. "But when the pain is so big that nothing is working — no painkillers, no tape — that means it is bad." ' ' '

Danny Wright: Just to break the ice, because of our namesake we like to ask everyone who comes in – can you go BarDown?Clint Malarchuk: Yes I can… yes I can.DW: Was goaltender the position you always wanted to play?CM: Yes. My dad was a goalie and so was my brother, whos seven years older. When we would go to the rink to watch my brother play, the seven year gap was like, yknow, thats big brother out there. It was definitely what I wanted to play. They kind of held me back out of goal until I could learn to skate, because they said that was important. So I played forward and defense when I was really young. I think I started playing goal when I was nine.DW: Is it true your farm is called ‘Canuck Ranch?CM: Yes, yes it is. A lot of people when they come in – we have a big sign that says Canuck Ranch – they dont know what a Canuck is. Its like a Yankee in the states, its just a slang term, and they go “oh we get it.” Its our slang for Yankee, yknow, Canadian.DW: Youve been known to be passionate about both hockey and horses - where did your love of horses begin?CM: Grande Prairie, Alberta. I had a cousin who married into a ranching family, just a huge family that had 500 head of cattle, diary, and pigs. Thats where I got the love of the horse.DW: If you could compare yourself to one athlete, past or present, in the way you prepared yourself and the work ethic you had, which athlete would you choose?CM: Ill say Willie de Wit. Hes from Grande Prairie! He was a silver medalist in the Olympics in boxing.DW: Probably the most violent incident hockey has ever seen, in 1989 during a game a skate blade slashed your carotid artery – is it fair to say Jim Pizzutelli, the Buffalo Sabres trainer, saved your life that day?CM: Yes, thats a fair statement. I think more because he was so calm. A lot of people are trained for trauma, but theres not preparation for trauma when its under the gun and youve got minutes between life and death. He was a Vietnam vet so hed seen some crap, so for him to be that calm probably saved my life. #502546465 / gettyimages.com DW: Theres an interview with you on YouTube a few weeks after the accident where youre saying how anxious you were to get back on the ice; do you regret returning to the NHL as fast as you did?CM: No, I think the longer you wait the harder it gets. I think your personality dictates that too. I know [Richard] Zednik took a lot longer than I did, but everybodys different. For me it was the right thing to do. My only regret is later on I found how much it affected me mentally, and counseling or some sort of therapy probably would have helped me. #85708975 / gettyimages.com DW: Youve obviously been through a lot in your life, how difficult was it to recount those certain moments, and relive them in a way, while writing the book?CM: It was awful. Going through it again… it was a very difficult project. Someone just asked me this morning if talking about it or reliving it again was hard, and I knew when I was finishing the book; the last day of editing I was talking to Dan Robson my writer, and I was in the barn and just started crying. I was just thanking god that everything was done. And now this part is actually fun. The book is done, what I said is in it and I cant change it. Actually talking about it is not nearly as tough, this is kind of fun now.DW: Do you think the NHL is doing enough to help players when in comes to the issue of mental health and mental illness?CM: I dont think its the NHL, I think its society in general that has to do more about mental health awareness. Bell is probably the biggest corporation doing the most with mental health. The program Lets Talk nationwide is extensive and high profile, with high profile people involved. Its really what we need. To me theyre [Bell] at the forefront leading what everybody else has to pick up on. The NHL, NFL, NBA and even including corporations worldwide need to pick up on this. The statistics are unbelievable on days lost in the workforce due to mental health reasons. If corporations looked at those numbers, theyd figure out they need to do something here. Its a win-win if we get going on this. Its no different than physical health, if youve got cancer or a medical problem where youre going to miss work you would tell your boss. If you have a mental health problem you dont go to your boss. But if the company saw those numbers they would say, “hey, if you have problems like that, just come to us, its totally confidential, and well get you some help” because lets face it business is about money. Having people out of work is probably losing companies money. If there can be preventative medicine, they would do it. #56673885 / gettyimages.com DW: It takes a lot of courage to write a book like ‘The Crazy Game, and I think its going to help a lot of people - is there any final words you want to give readers before they open the book?CM: The feedback that Ive had so far, I mean, the book is out in bookstores today, but the media has had advance copies and the feedback tells me its very open, honest and raw. Talk about BarDown, this is bare down. Be prepared. There are parts that youre going to read in the book and youre going to think I was probably a jerk. I was acting like one for sure, but that was part of the illness. I would just say be prepared for some real honest, and its a little bit raw. Ozzie Newsome Jersey . Baker Mayfield Womens Jersey .Y. - Geno Smith still thinks of himself as the New York Jets starting quarterback.BEREA, Ohio - Thrown into their first NFL game — in Pittsburgh, against the vaunted Steelers — rookies Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell didnt shown any nervousness or fear. They performed like seasoned veterans for the Browns. They need to do it again. With starting running back Ben Tate out with a sprained knee, West and Crowell will play Sunday as the Browns (0-1) host New Orleans. After Tate got hurt in the first half last week in Pittsburgh, West rushed for 100 yards — 91 in the second half — and Crowell scored two touchdowns as the Browns rallied from a 24-point deficit before losing 30-27. Browns coach Mike Pettine was pleased with how his rookie runners fared against the Steelers. "It was encouraging," Pettine said before practice Wednesday. "But they need to be able to take the next step, and this is another challenge for them, to go against this type of defence and its nothing that either one of those guys have seen before. It will be a good test for them." West, a third-round pick from Towson, and Crowell, an undrafted free agent whose college career began at Georgia before he transferred to Alabama State, passed their first test with relative ease. They werent intimidated and Pettine credited running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery with having the youngsters ready. Pettine did not provide any details on Tates injury, only confirming he will sit this week. However, theres a chance Tate could be out for an extended period, which would push West and Crowell up the depth chart. If their debuts were any indication, the Browns might not miss Tate. West, a 5-foot-10, 225-pounder, averaged 6.3 yards on 16 carries and became the first Cleveland back in 27 years to rush for 100 yards in his first pro game. Crowell, the SECs freshman of the year before legal problems derailed his career, scored a 3-yard TD on his first carry and on a 15-yarder. The backs have comparable running styles. Neither has breakaway speed, but while West admits he wants to score every time he touches the ball, Crowell is more patient and takes what defences give him. "Hes a slasher," Pettine said of the 5-foot-11, 225-pounder. "He can put his foot in the ground and cut. Hes decisive. Hes a guy that, if you polled DBs and said, Hey, do you want to make a list of guyss that you want to tackle? I dont think he makes that list.dddddddddddd." "Terrance is more of a can make you miss guy. I dont know if Crowell wants to make you miss," Pettine said. Saints coach Sean Payton became familiar with West last year on TV. Payton was watching his alma mater, Eastern Illinois, play Towson in the snow and West wasnt slowed by the wintry conditions. "He had about 310 yards," Payton said. "354," West said, correcting Payton and adding he scored five touchdowns. Maybe wearing his college number again helped. He wore No. 20 during training camp and the preseason, but after veteran back Dion Lewis was released, West asked if he could have No. 28. Clevelands coaches told him he had to earn it and by game time last Sunday he was 28 again. Unfazed by the stage, West ran against the Steelers the way he did in college, where he rushed for 2,509 yards last season with 41 TDs. Pettine wants him to "finish" runs better, and while West understands his coach doesnt want him to force things, hes got one mission with the ball. "Im always trying to score, every play," he said. "I mean every running back should think like that. The great running backs do." Crowells background — he was dismissed at Georgia on weapons charges later dropped — had him wondering about his football future. Looking back, it changed him. "It just made me work harder, made me hungrier," he said. Crowell believes hes just getting started. His debut in Pittsburgh was just his first step. "I feel I can be great," he said. "I feel like I can be one of the best. I want to be one of the best, and thats how Im going to work." NOTES: Pro Bowl TE Jordan Cameron said an MRI showed no structural damage in his right shoulder. He was limited in practice and doesnt know if hell play this week. ... P Spencer Lanning said he did not speak with Steelers WR Antonio Brown, who kicked him in the face on a return. Brown had said he talked to Lanning after the game. "Im not going to say he didnt talk to me, but I didnt talk to him," Lanning said. "I didnt see him. I was looking for him. I made a point to try to look for him." Lanning would not say if he felt Brown should be fined. ' ' '

PITTSBURGH -- The injury-ravaged Pittsburgh Penguins keep winning. Sidney Crosby scored his 20th goal of the season Saturday, helping the Penguins win their season-high seventh straight game, 4-3 over the Calgary Flames. "Winning always makes things better," Crosby said. "Theres no secret there. It doesnt matter what team you play on, winning solves everything." The Penguins, who lead the Eastern Conference with 55 points, played without star centre Evgeni Malkin and five of their top six defencemen for the fourth straight game, but that didnt stop them from winning their 10th straight at home and picking up their 12th victory in 13 games. "We do our best to chip in and get through this," Crosby said. "Its not common, youre not used to being in this situation, but just having the mindset of going out there to outwork the other team has done us well." Crosby, who had a goal and two assists, extended his season-high points streak to 10 games. He leads the league with 54 points. Pascal Dupuis added his seventh goal of the season, Harry Zolnierczyk scored his first with the team and James Neal added a goal. Mike Cammalleri scored his first goal in nine games for the Flames. Jiri Hudler netted his 10th, and Paul Byron had the other goal. The Flames have lost four straight and six of their last nine. "We never quit," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "We kept going at the net. With a little luck, maybe we could have gotten the tying goal. Its a tough loss to swallow." Pittsburgh jumped to a two-goal lead and went up 4-1 on goals from Crosby and Neal. But Calgary scored twice -- Cammalleri with 45 seconds left in the second period and Hudler 1:03 into the third period to make it 4-3. The Flames came up empty on an ensuing power play and continued to press for the tying goal. Their best chance came with 6:25 remaining when Joe Colborne hit the post to the right of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who won his 21st game of the season. "They had more than one good opportunity around our net, and certainly the one that went off the post," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. Despite all their injuries, the Penguins have been better than any other team in the league since Nov. 18, registering the most wins and points during that span. Theyve done it playing from ahead too as Pittsburgh has trailed for just 3:12 in its past nine games. Dupuis and Zolnierczyk scored 1:19 apart midway through the first period, staking the Penguins to another early two-goal lead. The Penguins are an NHL-best 17-3 at home and 22-2 when scoring first. Malkin, who injured his left leg last Saturday at Detroit, skated the past two days and could return after Christmas. Penguins defenceman Rob Scuderi (broken ankle) and forward Tanner Glass (broken hand) also could return soon during an upcoming stretch in which Pittsburgh plays seven of its next nine on the road. Additionally, Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik passed a concussion test Friday and practiced for the first time since Dec. 7 when he was pushed to the ice by Bruins forward Shawn Thornton. Thornton, who punched Orpik while he was down, was suspended by the NHL for 15 games. The Flames, who just finished a five-game road trip, could be without two key players when they return to Canada for a five-game homestand that starts Monday against St. Louis. Assistant captain Curtis Glencross left early in the first period, injuring his left knee after an awkward fall into the boards. Glencross, who needed assistance to the dressing room, remained on the ice until the whistle, but couldnt put weight on his leg. Flames defenceman Kris Russell, playing in his 400th career game, also left in the third period with a leg injury. Hartley did not have an injury update after the game, noting both will be evaluated on Sunday. "The fact that they didnt come back is not good news," Hartley said. "Theyre two great leaders, but at the same time there is nothing we can do about injuries." NOTES: The Penguins signed backup goalie Jeff Zatkoff to a two-year contract extension. ... Marqise Lee Jersey .C. -- Duke sophomore Rodney Hood is entering the NBA draft.FALL RIVER, Mass. - Aaron Hernandez was once one of the New England Patriots biggest stars. A tight end who caught passes from Tom Brady and helped land his team a spot in the Super Bowl, he had a $40 million contract and fans willing to shell out $100 apiece for jerseys bearing his name and team number: 81.On Friday, he goes on trial for murder. Those jerseys — indeed anything with a Patriots or NFL logo or even football-related insignia — have been banned from the courthouse by the judge overseeing the trial, a reflection of the sensitivity of the case and the intense interest in it.Hernandez is accused of killing Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semiprofessional football player from Boston who was dating the sister of Hernandezs fiancee. Lloyd was found shot to death June 17, 2013, in an industrial park near Hernandezs home in North Attleborough. Also charged with murder are two Hernandez friends: Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace. Prosecutors havent said who pulled the trigger but said Hernandez orchestrated the killing. Ortiz and Wallace will be tried separately.More than 1,000 potential jurors are expected to fill out questionnaires Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Those answers will be read by prosecutors and Hernandezs defence team, who will tell the judge which jurors they hope to excuse. Those who remain in the pool will be questioned by the judge individually and out of the hearing of the media. Each side has 18 peremptory challenges, which allows them to exclude a juror for any reason. Otherwise, lawyers will need to give a valid reason for asking a judge to exclude a juror. The questioning will continue until 18 jurors have been chosen.Cameras arent allowed in the courthouse during jury selection but will be allowed once opening statements begin.J.W. Carney Jr., a Boston defence lawyer who represented crime boss James Whitey Bulger during his 2013 federal trial, says during jury selection, lawyers on both sides will want to listen to what a potential juror says and watcch their body language carefully.ddddddddddddIt can reflect whether the potential juror is being candid about difficult issues, he said. Most people would prefer to avoid jury duty. Others want to be selected when its a high-profile case. In both instances, they may give misleading answers to the court in order to accomplish their goals.Christopher Dearborn, an associate professor at Suffolk University Law School and former defence lawyer, says extensive news coverage of the case will make it more challenging to assemble an unbiased jury.If anybody says they have not heard about this case during the jury selection, they are lying, he said. If anybody says they havent formed an opinion about this case, they are lying. One of the defences goals during jury selection, Dearborn says, should be finding jurors who can still be objective, even if theyve heard about the case and perhaps have already formed an opinion about it. He said the same problems popped up in the Bulger trial and are happening now in the trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Jury selection in the bombing case is underway in federal court in Boston.High-profile cases are the one area where its challenging to have a completely fair trial in our judicial system, he said. The reality is that not everybody is completely honest about what theyve read and what opinions theyve formed when theyre interviewed during the jury selection process.Of the 18 people selected as jurors, six will be alternates. Jurors will learn whos an alternate before they begin deliberations; that process is done through a random lottery by selecting numbers from a wooden basket. The trial, expected to last six to 10 weeks, will not be the end of Hernandezs legal troubles. He faces separate murder charges in Boston, where he is accused of killing two men after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on Hernandez at a nightclub. The trial date has not yet been set.___Marcelo contributed from Boston. ' ' '

    1. KEVIN DURANT (Thunder): Huge news in the Western Conference. Needless to say were looking at 6-10 weeks here depending on who you talk to and how quickly they want to get him back. They dealt really well with the loss of Russell Westbrook last season and Im sure between him, Serge Ibaka and Reggie Jackson theyll find a way to keep the thing afloat in the early going. If youre ever going to endure a rough patch, better it come early rather than on the heels of the playoffs starting in April. 2. BRADLEY BEAL (Wizards): Out as well with a wrist injury. I guess that quiets the talk of whos got the top Eastern Conference backcourt for at least now. In addition, Kris Humphries is out for a stretch - I liked his addition to this squad. He provides great energy and hustle. Huge opportunity for both Otto Porter and Glen Rice to show what theyve got as young players in extended time. If either or both show that theyre capable, then this will be looked upon as a good long term development for their franchise adding to the depth and scoring punch of their club. Beal is a very nice shooter and has improved his ball skills as well recently yet this could end up giving them greater flexibility if these two young guys take advantage of whats in front of them. 3. JASON KAPONO (Warriors): Nice to see that hes trying to make an NBA comeback on the West Coast. Never have enough 3-point shooting and when left open, he can make them. I always felt that he played it safe at times and didnt have enough of an aggressive approach when needed. Hes a sound fundamental player and more than capable shot maker. This teams style could fit his game nicely. The challenge is, can he fit them? Good luck to him. A solid guy. 4. MARCUS SMART (Celtics): Love his energy and passion that he plays with. His long range perimeter shooting is suspect and his play making will be a work in progress but hes got a tough mindset and he is a terrific on the ball defender. Exceptional later quickness and focus. Brad Stevens is a patient coach and they know that its all about the long term view right now so hell have his growing pains. With the pending free agency of Rajon Rondo, they need to throw him out there each night and experience the challenges of NBA life to see what theyve got. 5. BROOK LOPEZ (Nets): If this guy stays healthy his team will have the ability to challenge both the Knicks and Raptors for the Atlantic Division title, but he must stay healthy and give hem 70-plus games to be in that consideration. With the losses of Shaun Livingston, Andray Blatche, Paul Pierce and Marcus Thornton, the Nets dont have as much natural scoring as they did a year ago. Jarrett Jack was a good pickup and is a sound combo guard who knows how to make the high percentage plays. Lionel Hollins was a smart hire as head coach and I fully expect this team to play really hard and compete consistently. It all hedges though on Lopezs health. If hes right theyre good. Hes an outstanding scorer and good all-around offensive player. Need to see greater toughness and commitment to rebounding more often yet hes a valuable piece that has to be kept upright for them to contend for the Atlantic title. Fake Jerseys 2019 . NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball says it got the replay call right in ruling that the Miami Marlins catcher blocked the plate, but it took too long. The disputed play happened Thursday night in the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 victory over Miami. The score was 1-1 in the top of the eighth. Initially, the plate umpire called Cincinnatis Zack Cozart out. The 6-minute, 10-second review using the instant replay system over-ruled the call and extended the inning. Ryan Ludwick delivered a two-run single to help the Reds win. MLB said the catcher "did not provide a lane to the runner and hindered his path to the plate without possession of the ball." The statement added that the "exorbitant length" of the review was more than three times the season average and "must be avoided in the future." Ethan Ampadu Jersey . PAUL, Minn.MANCHESTER, England -- David Moyes is set to pay the price for Manchester Uniteds spectacular and sudden decline by being fired as manager of the deposed English champions, with his departure potentially being sealed on Tuesday. United stayed silent Monday, refusing officially to guarantee Moyes future at Old Trafford amid widespread reports in online stories by British newspapers that his 11-month tenure was about to end after losing the support of the board. It appears Moyes position has become untenable since Sunday, when United lost 2-0 to Everton in the Premier League to ensure Englands biggest club over the last two decades will miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 19 years. It also left United seventh in the league, a season after winning its 20th championship by 11 points, and on course for its lowest league finish since 1990. Even being the so-called "Chosen One" -- a nickname given to Moyes after he was hand-picked for the position by predecessor Alex Ferguson -- is unlikely to save the 50-year-old Scot, who signed a six-year deal at a club famed for preaching the values of stability. Leading British bookmakers have all slashed their odds on Moyes being removed and many of Tuesdays newspapers are reporting Ryan Giggs, a club great who is on the coaching staff at United, could take temporary charge until the end of the season. "Theyre going to have to clarify this position quickly," said former United defender Gary Neville, who described the clubs handling of the situation as "repulsive." "The average manager gets sacked every 12 months and Ive always felt Manchester United should be different, hold themselves up as a club that basically stands against whats happening in the game." Nevilles brother, Gary, is a member of Moyes coaching team. Moyes has been unable to continue tthe success of Ferguson, who ended his 27-year reign at the end of last season after winning the league for his 38th major trophy as United manager.dddddddddddd Moyes guided United to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, losing to Bayern Munich, but the teams domestic form has been woeful by its high standards. United is 23 points behind current leader Liverpool, 13 adrift of the Champions League places, and has slumped to a string of humiliating losses including to fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester City at home. United has been defeated a club-record 11 times in the league and 10 times in 22 matches in all competitions in 2014. The deposed champions appear ready to spend considerable sums over the summer to strengthen its squad but their American owners, the Glazer family, may not be willing to trust Moyes to oversee such heavy spending. He was indecisive in the transfer window in the last off-season, bringing in only Marouane Fellaini from former club Everton for 27.5 million pounds ($43 million), and the Belgium midfielder has been a disappointment. United broke its club record transfer fee to sign Juan Mata for 37.1 million pounds ($61.2 million) in January but Moyes has been unable to regularly play the Spain playmaker in his best position. Dutch coach Louis van Gaal and Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp have been linked with any possible vacancy. With fan backing appearing to ebb away, Moyes said after the loss to Everton that United was "on track" in its transition period post-Ferguson. "We are rebuilding," he said, "we have got things we want to do. "The supporters have been incredibly behind the team and supported the team throughout. They realize it has been a difficult season ... They understand it has not been good, I recognize it has not been good, it needs to be better." ' ' '

CONCORD, N.C. -- Sprint Cup points leader Jeff Gordon cut short his practice because of back spasms and the No. 24 team has Regan Smith on standby should the four-time champion not be able to run the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night. Gordon went just 11 laps Saturday before he told his crew he couldnt continue. He left out of a side door of his hauler and was escorted out of the track to get treatment. Crew chief Alan Gustafson said the team would not run the car in the final practice session and instead will get it ready for Sundays race. "Ive had some spasms in the past, but this one, it was a little bit different," said the 42-year-old Gordon. "And so I just want to really be cautious and take care of it. It doesnt do me any good to be in the car right now." Gustafson said the plan was for Gordon to start the longest event in NASCAR. Should the pain be too much, then Smith would take over the Hendrick Motorsports car. Gustafson said Gordon felt back pain after qualifying Thursday night and had hoped things would improve before Saturdays practice sessions. But "after the first run, we talked about it and it was pretty detrimental to him physically to continue," Gustafson said. Gordon said on Twitter he planned to rest and "be ready for 600 miles 2moro." The four-time series champion is having one of the steadiest starts of his career with eight top-10 finishes in the first 11 races. Gordon moved into the points lead following a second-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in early April and hes stayed out front ever since. He cemented his place in the Sprint Cups championship Chase two weeks ago with a victory at Kansas Speedway. Gordon will start 27th and hope his back holds out for 400 laps around the 1.5-mile race track. "Luckily, we had a good 11 laps there and weve got our teammates and information that were going to be able to gather from them," Gordon said. "Its all coming together very fast right now." Gordon has had back spasms in the past and even considered retiring because of the severe pain. Regular treatment has kept the pain mostly in check and Gustafson hopes that will be the case again for Sunday. Doctors "will get him in the best condition he can and get him ready to run tomorrow," Gustafson said. This weeks race marks the 20th anniversary of Gordons first Sprint Cup victory. His crew chief then, Ray Evernham, said Gordon is much tougher than some believe and has raced through illness and pain before. "We won the Southern 500 (at Darlington) when he started throwing up halfway" through the race, said Evernham, currently working for Hendrick Motorsports. Evernham said Gordon believes his car is ready and is being smart by not hurting himself further by practicing. "Hell do everything he needs to do to get to feeling good and I know him and tomorrow night in that car, he may need some help getting out of it, but when hes in it, hes going to be at 100 per cent," Evernham said. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Michael Brantley gets to head home celebrating a game-winning hit instead of dwelling on a rare error. Brantley atoned for a dropped fly ball by hitting a two-run single in the ninth inning off new Oakland closer Jim Johnson that helped the Cleveland Indians salvage a split of a day-night doubleheader with a 6-4 win over the Athletics in the nightcap Wednesday. "Its just a never-die attitude, never quit, always picking each other up and always fighting to the end," Brantley said. "What we did tonight was fun. It was special, and hopefully well use that momentum to keep going." Scott Kazmir (1-0) pitched 7 1-3 scoreless innings against his former team in his Oakland debut to help the As win the opener 6-1. They appeared to be on their way to a sweep when they took a 4-3 lead into the ninth with help from Brantleys dropped fly ball. But Johnson allowed back-to-back singles to Ryan Raburn and Nick Swisher to open the inning. After a one-out walk to Carlos Santana loaded the bases, Brantley grounded a single to right field to give the Indians the lead. "Any time you can win a game its always great, but especially in a doubleheader," said Mike Aviles, who homered earlier in the game. "Last thing you want to do is get on that plane after losing two." David Murphy added a sacrifice fly to end Johnsons night to a chorus of boos. Johnson also allowed two runs in the ninth inning to take the loss on opening night and is 0-7 with a 7.94 ERA in 17 games against the Indians. More importantly for As fans he has lost twice since taking over from Grant Balfour as closer. "We should be 3-0 and I take responsibility," Johnson said. "But if I sulk or pout its not going to do anyone any good. I have to be better." Cody Allen (2-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win and John Axford got three outs for his second save. The As had taken the lead when Brantley dropped a fly ball in left-centre that allowed Josh Donaldson to reach second and ended a club-record streak of 247 games in the outfield without an error. "They both called it at the same time," manager Terry Francona said. "Probably the most conscientious guy on the field is kicking himself. For him to get a hit like thaat was really great.dddddddddddd" Donaldson later scored on Brandon Moss single that made it 4-3. The teams played the earliest doubleheader in baseball history following the first rainout in Oakland since May 5, 1998, on Tuesday night. The previous earliest doubleheader came on April 7 in 1971, 74 and 96, according to STATS. Kazmir started the day off on the right note for Oakland, allowing three hits and no walks in 7 1-3 scoreless innings. He signed a $22 million, two-year contract in the off-season to replace All-Star Bartolo Colon in the rotation. Kazmirs importance in the rotation only grew when projected opening day starter Jarrod Parker was lost to a season-ending elbow injury and starter A.J. Griffin opened the season on the disabled list. "You always want to make that good first impression and thats what he did," catcher Derek Norris said. "If he had any type of pressure on his shoulders to do something good I think thats pretty much eliminated." Alberto Callaspo hit a two-run homer for the Athletics. Corey Kluber (0-1) failed to make it out of the fourth inning and lost for the first time in 13 starts since June 27. He gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 1-3 innings. He was hurt by a nearly five-minute replay delay in the second inning. The disputed play came with runners on first and third and one out when Josh Donaldson hit a grounder to third. Carlos Santana threw home and umpire Mark Wegner ruled that Gomes tagged Norris before he touched home. As manager Bob Melvin challenged the call but the ruling stood after a review of about 4 minutes, 45 seconds, because there was no conclusive evidence to overturn it. Kluber allowed an RBI single to Lowrie after the delay to fall behind 3-0. "By that point it was apparent I was searching and I dont think that had anything to do with it," Kluber said. "That being said, I thought it took way too long. It took away from the flow of the game and thats what they are trying to avoid." NOTES: Brantleys previous error came on June 3, 2012, against Minnesota. ... The Indians won a replay challenge in the second game when replay showed Nick Punto missed the tag on Aviles on a steal attempt of second base. Cleveland failed to score after the challenge. ' ' '

UCI President Brian Cookson has expressed his concern that there will be no time for a test event at the Rio Velodrome The issue was discussed on Thursday during Rios final presentation to the IOC executive board before the Games, which begin on August 5.Organisers have also told the IOC that the risk of Zika infection will be dramatically reduced during the Games, with cases of the mosquito-born virus reportedly dropping significantly from June to September.A group of 150 public health experts last week called for the Games to be postponed or moved because of Zika, which has been linked to severe birth defects, but the World Health Organization said there was no public health justification for such a move.Elsewhere, Kuwaits chances of competing at the Games have been dealt a severe blow after the IOC said a ban imposed last year was unlikely to be lifted in time. However, the counttrys athletes could still compete at the Games as independent athletes under the Olympic flag, according to IOC spokesman Mark Adams.dddddddddddd. Municipal agents spray anti Zika mosquitos in Rio Kuwait and the IOC have been at odds over a new law that the Olympic body says will undermine the autonomy of sport in the country and the ban, which was imposed in October, means the countrys Olympic Committee and consequently its athletes are not eligible for any funding from the IOC for the duration of the suspension and cannot take part in any IOC-linked event. The situation with Kuwait is not improving, said Adams on Thursday. Since the last IOC executive board there has been no positive development due to the attitude of the government. It is unlikely to be resolved by the time of the Games in Rio. We believe Kuwait will remain suspended, he said.Meanwhile, a Turkish boxer and a Russian cyclist have been provisionally suspended after doping samples from the 2012 London Olympics came back positive in retesting.Boxer Adem Kilicci, who lost in the quarter-finals of the middleweight division, and track cyclist Yekaterina Gnidenko both tested positive for steroids. MINSK, Belarus -- Defending champion Sweden made the first step in its title defence with a 3-0 victory over Denmark at the ice hockey world championship on Saturday. Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund scored twice in the opening period when the Swedes displayed fast, well organized play that was tough for Denmark to match. "It was nice to have a few goals right away, keep the pressure off and the nerves away," Backlund said. Another Scandinavian superpower, Finland, began its campaign with an upset 3-2 loss to Latvia and Norway blanked Italy 3-0 while Germany prevailed in a shootout to beat Kazakhstan 2-1. Backlund scored his first for Sweden when defenceman Markus Lauridsen deflected his shot to the net with his skate and struck again by precisely directing Joakim Lindstroms slap shot. Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist added the third on a solo effort after intercepting a pass. "Once we got up two to nothing we stopped taking the puck to the net," Nyquist said. "We tried to make too many passes instead of shooting the puck." Latvia failed to capitalize on its second-period power plays when a total of seven Finns were in the penalty box. Finland used its only power play in that period to go 2-1 up with a goal by Petri Kontiola. Kristaps Sotnieks tied the match for Latvia -- the quarterfinalist in the Sochi Winter Olympics -- in the third before Arturs Kulda netted the winner on a power play. It was the first victory for Latvia over Finland at the worlds. Thomas Oppenheimer scored the decisive goal in the shootout to give Germany the win. Germany outshot its opponent 47-20 but Kazakhstan went ahead 1-0 after a goal from Andrei Gavrilin. The Germans answered through Matthias Plachta at the end of the first period. "I have to look at the positive," German coach Pat Cortina said. "We put the puck to the net and that is extremely important for our team." Niklas Roest opened the scoring in the first period for Norway, Morten Ask made it 2-0 midway through the game and captain Anders Bastiansen rounded off the victory on a breakaway in the third. "I tried to shoot early to surprise the goalie and it went in, so I was really happy," Bastiansen said. "We did a good job. We won and thats the most important thing." Goaltender Lars Haugen made 15 saves for the shutout, but needed help from his posts on two shots by defenceman Daniel Sullivan in the second. "We had a little difficulty in the beginning, adjusting to the speed," Italy coach Tom Pokel said. "However, as the game went on we got better and better. So it was a good game for us." Italy and Kazakhstan are both newcomers to the top division this year. Later Saturday, Canada hopes to rebound from Fridays 3-2 loss to France with a win against Slovakia, while the United States faces Switzerland a day after it routed host Belarus 6-1. Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Nene scored 20 points and the Washington Wizards split their home-and-home set against the Brooklyn Nets with a 99-90 victory at Barclays Center on Saturday. Bradley Beal totaled 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Marcin Gortat finished with 10 points and 16 boards for the Wizards, who were handed a 22-point loss on their home floor Friday night. They rebounded by shooting 51.9 percent from the floor and getting at least nine points from seven players. Jarrett Jack paced the Nets with 22 points and eight assists, while Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez chipped in with 15 points apiece. Brooklyn never led in the fourth quarter but pulled even at 81-81 with just over eight minutes to play. Washington answered with an 8-2 run and stayed in front the rest of the way despite its struggles at the foul line, where it went just 14-of-27. Mason Plumlee was close to cutting Brooklyns deficit to one possession with 2 1/2 minutes remaining, but Nene disrupted his alley-oop try at the rim, albeit with a lot of contact. The whistle did not blow, and Nenes jumper at the other end yielded a 95-88 lead that all but sealed the outcome. The first half was played within a five-point spread either way, with the Nets holding a slim 26-23 lead after one quarter and a 51-50 advantage at halftime. The Wizards trailed by seven in the third before rattling off an 18-2 surge to go in front by a 74-65 margin. Rasual Butlers rainbow 3-pointer at the buzzer had Washington in front 77-70 heading to the fourth. Game Notes Brooklyn had lost seven in a row prior to Fridays win in DC ... The struggling Sandoval came through after reliever J.P. Howell (1-1) intentionally walked Hunter Pence with two outs. Sandoval, who entered the game batting just .164, grounded into centre field to score Joaquin Arias from second. Jean Machi (3-0) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam earlier in the seventh for the win. Buster Posey broke an 0-for-13 skid with an RBI single in the third to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Dee Gordons tying triple in the sixth accounted for the Dodgers lone run. Los Angeles at least dodged worse news. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez left in the seventh after getting hit by a pitch from Ryan Vogelsong on the top of his left hand. The team said X-rays on Ramirezs hand were negative. Sergio Romo pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save, striking out Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp to end the game. Vogelsong allowed the one run and four hits in six-plus innings to help the Giants win their third straight game. He struck out two and walked two to match Paul Maholm most of the way. Maholm gave up one run and five hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked three to rebound from a loss in his only other start this season on April 5, when he allowed five runs in 4 1-3 innings to the Giants. San Francisco improved to 4-1 against the Dodgers this season in a race that could remain tight through the summer. Both teams began the day with a 9-5 record. The starting pitchers kept the game moving at a far brisker pacee than the nearly 5-hour contest Tuesday night that ended when Hector Sanchez singled home the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning to give the Giants the win.dddddddddddd The biggest blemish came when Vogelsong hit the top of Ramirezs left hand to open the seventh. Ramirez slammed his helmet to the ground and hopped around in pain before being replaced by Justin Turner. After the Dodgers loaded the bases with one out, Machi fielded a hard comebacker from Juan Uribe to start a home-to-first double play. The biggest hold up came from baseballs new replay system after Vogelsong pick of Kemp at first base in the second inning. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly challenge the play, which umpires upheld after a 4:25 video review that drew light boos from some fans during the wait. MILWAUKEE -- O.J. Mayo and Gary Neal put on a long-range shooting display, but it was Caron Butlers little 2-foot tip-in that made the difference for the Milwaukee Bucks. Butler rebounded a miss by Mayo with 24.8 seconds left for the go-ahead basket that halted a 13-point run by the Cleveland Cavaliers, propelling the short-handed Bucks to a 109-104 victory Wednesday night. "Ive been around long enough," Butler said. "I just know a plays not over at the end of the game, thats when guys kind of put their guard down a little bit. I saw a great opportunity to sneak in there and put my hand on the ball." Mayo scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers, and Neal, who added four 3-pointers, scored 12 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Bucks salvaged a victory after seeing a double-digit lead slip away in the final 3 minutes. Milwaukee, already without its top two point guards -- Brandon Knight and Luke Ridnour -- also played without forward Ersan Ilyasova and centre Larry Sanders. Ilyasova was out with a sore right ankle while Sanders was out with a sprained right thumb, injured in a weekend off-court incident that is being investigated, the Bucks said in a statement. "We were short-handed with no Larry Sanders, no Ersan, Luke Ridnour and Brandon Knight," Bucks coach Larry Drew said. "For those guys to come out and play like they did, I am very proud of them. I am very proud to coach this group. Weve had to overcome a lot of adversity since the beginning of training camp, dealing with injuries and guys being out. We beat a very good basketball team tonight in Cleveland." The Bucks, who used only eight players, opened the fourth quarter with an 11-2 run to take a 94-81 lead, but Kyrie Irving scored 10 consecutive points to fuel a 13-point run that put the Cavaliers up 104-103. After Butlers tip put the Bucks up 105-104, Irving dribbled off his foot and out of bounds. Mayo added four free throws in the closing seconds. "Crucial turnover by me at the end and it kind of stopped that," said Irving, who led Cleveland with 29 points. "A missed shot by me as well. It starts on the defensive end early in the game. Weve just got to get stops early, so were not in that predicament going into the fourth quarter." Neither team put on a defensive clinic in the first half that ended with the Bucks leading 55-53. Cleveland, which entered the game shooting 40.2 per cent from the field, shot 56.4 per cent in the first half, making 22 of 39 shots. The Bucks, who entered the game shooting 43.8 per cent, made 20 of 36 (55.6 per cent). "O.J. Mayo and Gary Neal are combined 10 for 12 from the 3-point line and we keep telling our guys to get up in them," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. "Make them drive, make them drive. No air space, no air space. Make them drive, make them drive. But we continue to close short and allow them to shoot 3s. It is unacceptable." Injuries forced Bucks rookie Nate Wolters, a second-round draft pick out of South Dakota State, to play 33 minutes. Wolters, who has played at least 29 minutes in each game, finished with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists. "Hes very poised," Mayo said. "I think weve all seen that from day one. I dont think we thought he was going to be put in the hot seat that fast, but like I told him, "Welcome to the NBA. If youre ready, you dont have to get ready." NOTES: Former Bucks G Michael Redd officially announced his retirement Wednesday night and addressed the crowd from centre court between the first and second quarters. Redd, the 43rd pick in 2000, plyed 11 seasons with the Bucks before finishing his career with Phoenix in 2011-12. Redd, who holds the Bucks record with 57 points in a game, averaged better than 21 points per game for six consecutive seasons before tearing an ACL and MCL in his left knee in 2009-10 and then again the following season. ... Cam Talbot allowed all three goals on 32 shots for the Rangers, who have dropped their last two games on the heels of a five-game winning streak. Boston is now 6-0-2 in their last eight meetings with New York. Bergeron put the Bruins on the board four minutes into the game after he whacked the rebound of Dougie Hamiltons shot through Talbots legs. Boston increased their lead to 2-0 on Krejcis redirection of Krugs slap pass 2:49 into the middle stanza. Each team had good scoring chances following the goal during the second. Rick Nash wasted a prime opportunity as his shot went wide on a breakaway less than seven minutes in, then Krejci had his shot in tight stuffed by Talbots pad almost two minutes later.dddddddddddd Eriksson made it a 3-0 game with 10:11 remaining as he settled the rebound of Zdeno Charas point shot down in front and lifted it into the top of the net. CONROE, Texas - Adrian Peterson wont be coming back to the field any time soon.A Texas judge on Wednesday tentatively set a Dec. 1 trial date for the Minnesota Vikings star running back on a charge of felony child abuse for using a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son earlier this year. Peterson is on paid leave and the Vikings final game of the regular season is Dec. 28.Theres no guarantee the trial will begin Dec. 1, either. Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon indicated he intends to file a motion to recuse Judge Kelly Case after the judge allegedly called attorneys in the case media whores. Case apologized, but a Nov. 4 hearing was scheduled on whether to assign a new judge.Defence attorney Rusty Hardin said he didnt mind Cases comment because hes been called worse. But he said he wants to try the case as quickly as possible since Peterson cant play in the NFL while the charge is pending. The only way to get this solved is to have a quick and speedy trial, Hardin said afterward.Accompanied by his wife and with his mother sitting behind him in the gallery, Peterson did not speak during his initial court appearance and did not enter a plea. Hardin has indicated Peterson will plead not guilty to the charge that carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.Peterson arrived in a black Cadillac Escalade at the suburban Houston courthouse. Nearby was a person wearing a wildcat costume and holding a sign that said Free AP in sparkling letters, prompting a chuckle from Hardin. Several women stood near the courthouse entrance shrieking and talking about how handsome Peterson looked after he entered the building.Peterson, who was put on leave under a special roster exemption from the NFL commissioner, was indicted last month. He has said he never intended to harm his son and was only disciplining him in the same way he had been as a child growing up in East Texas.Corporal punishment is legal in every U.S. state. Should Petersons case go to trial, legal experts say, the final determination of what is reasonable discipline will be based on the standards found in the local community a€” and Texas law offers no definition of what that is. It says the use of non-deadly force against someone younger than 18 is justified if a parent or guardian reasonably believes the force is necessary to discipline the child or to safeguard or promote his welfare. The Texas Attorney Generals Office notes that belts and brushes are accepted by many as legitimate disciplinary tools, but electrical or phone cords, boards, yardsticks, ropes, shoes, and wires are likely to be considered instruments of abuse.F. Scott McCown, director of the Childrens Rights Clinic at the University of Texas School of Law that represents children in abuse and neglect cases, said people can have abstract debates about what is reasonable but they tend to come to a consensus when looking at a specific case. Some of the factors that tend to be used to decide whether corporal punishment was unreasonable include whether a child needed medical attention and if the disciplining left visible marks and bruises, McCown said. According to court records, Petersons son suffered cuts, marks and bruising to his thighs, back and on one of his testicles. If Petersons case goes to trial, prosecutors and defence attorneys will be picking jurors in a county with conservative beliefs and one that has also banned corporal punishment in its largest school district. E. Tay Bond, an attorney who has worked in Montgomery County for 16 years, said the potential jury pool in the Peterson case will likely not be economically or racially diverse.Because jurors in are summoned via email, the jury pool will be made up of individuals with a higher socio-economic status, who tend to be more conservative, Bond said.People will still discipline their children ... As long as its appropriate and not excessive, its not a crime, Wilke said. Its unclear how many cases involving abuse claims stemming from corporal punishment are dealt with either by Texas courts or CPS. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, CPSs parent agency, doesnt keep statistics detailing whether an abuse case involved corporal punishment. McCown said that in most of the cases his clinic has handled, usually parents do not end up going to jail.Lucy Wilke, a prosecutor in Kerr County for 17 1/2 years, recalled a case in 2010 in which an 11-year-old boy was hit nearly 20 times with a three-foot piece of looped wire by his father for not taking out the trash. This was just excessive. This was abuse and not corporal punishment, said Wilke, who helped convict the Kerrville, Texas, man on a charge of injury to a child.David Dill was sentenced to four years in prison after prosecutors accused him of binding his sons hands, feet and mouth with duct tape and then using the looped wire to hit the boy.The range of punishment for injury to a child charge depends on the defendants intent. Peterson is accused of injuring his son through his reckless actions, while Dill was accused of intentionally or knowingly causing injury to his child. He faced up to 10 years in prison. In court documents, Dill denied doing anything wrong. Like Peterson, Dill said he disciplined his son similar to how he had been punished as a child.___AP Sports Writer Kristie Rieken contributed to this report.___Follow Juan A. Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping . -- Miami Dolphins defensive co-ordinator Kevin Coyle defended the management style of coach Joe Philbin in the wake of the teams bullying scandal.MIAMI -- Julio Teherans low ERA rose a smidgen, which was OK because his modest batting average rose a lot. Teheran pitched 7 1-3 innings and had two hits Friday night to help the Atlanta Braves move a game ahead of Miami atop the NL East by beating the Marlins 3-2. The right-hander doubled to lead off the seventh, and the Braves went on to score twice in the inning to take the lead. "I felt I had to start a rally, and just tried to put the ball in play," Teheran said. "I think that was the biggest play of the game." The Braves trailed 2-0 in the sixth inning but rallied to break a four-game losing streak. "I know weve been losing," Teheran (5-3) said. "Its nice to do my job and help the team." Teheran allowed five hits and two runs, which raised his ERA to 1.83. He came into the game 2 for 25 this season and hiked his batting average to .143. The right-hander improved to 4-0 in six career starts against the Marlins with an ERA of 2.50. "Hes a stud," teammate Chris Johnson said. "He earned this one. He had our backs, and we got him just enough." Three relievers combined to complete a five-hitter. Craig Kimbrel, who took the loss Thursday at Boston, pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save in 16 chances. The Braves won for only the third time in their past 13 road games. They totalled just eight hits but had several lineouts. "We hit the ball harder than any other game this year," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We were hitting rockets right at people all night long. The score wasnt indicative of how well we swung the bat." Giancarlo Stanton hit his NL-leading 16th home run in the first inning to put the Marlins up 2-0, but Tom Koehler (4-5) couldnt hold the lead. He gave up three runs in seven innings and was annoyed to allow four walks. "Its tough to win ballgames wwhen youre giving a team extra opportunities," he said.dddddddddddd The Marlins lost for only the second time in their past 13 games against NL East teams. Freddie Freeman went hitless and struck out three times. He is 0 for 28 with 12 strikeouts against Miami this year and is batting .347 against the rest of the majors. With the Braves trailing 2-1 to start the seventh, Gonzalez said it was a no-brainer to let Teheran hit, in part because the teams bullpen was stretched thin. Teheran rewarded the decision with an opposite-field double. Jason Heyward followed with a run-scoring triple, and B.J. Uptons sacrifice fly drove in an unearned run to put the Braves ahead. Johnson singled home Atlantas first run in the sixth. While the Braves liked the way Teheran hit, they were more impressed with the 23-year-olds pitching. "The more he goes out there, the more impressed I get -- his demeanour and how he goes about his business," Gonzalez said. "You watch him grow up in front of your face." Teherans only glaring mistake was a hanging slider to Stanton, whose homer was a typical tape-measure job. It cleared the hedge beyond the 418-foot sign in centre field, ending a streak of 15 consecutive scoreless innings for Teheran. He started a new streak the next inning. "He was throwing four or five different pitches and commanding them all," Miamis Ed Lucas said. "He does a really good job changing speeds, especially for somebody who is as young as he is. Hes got a really good feel for pitching." The Marlins, who began the night with the best home record in baseball, fell to 20-9 at Marlins Park. NOTES: Miami C Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 0 for 3 and is in a 1-for-18 slump. ... RHP Ervin Santana (4-2, 4.06) is scheduled to start Saturday for the Braves against Miami RHP Jacob Turner (1-2, 5.35). ' ' '
